How To Spend A Lazy Day

Posted by Megan Crandall on

If you are lucky enough to be young and or on vacation, summer can be the best time of the year. For those of us who have learned the harsh reality of being an adult, summer isn’t as free and easy. That’s why every now and again when the weekend comes along; I make sure to have a lazy day. It gives me a chance to toodle around and enjoy my hometown, while using as little energy as possible. My kinda day!

Any lazy day has to start with sleeping in, obviously. Other than getting dressed, the next thing you should be doing is BRUNCH. There’s a number of great breakfast places around, but my brunch go to is always eggs benny; which can be found at The Island, Whitetooth Mountain Bistro and the Big Bend Cafe. They all have great patios, and trust me, enjoying brunch while working on your tan is a great way to start a lazy day.

After your belly is full from brunch, the next necessit y is some sun soaking. It’s one of the best things to do on a lazy day and requires no effort at all! There are a couple of favourite spots for locals; including Cedar Lake and Confluence Park. They both offer sandy areas and easy access to water. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you could head up to the Mount 7 launch, you’ll really be able to soak up those rays from up there!

I can only stay in the sun for so long before I need something to cool me down...like an ice cold sweet treat! If you wander around downtown you’ll have a selection of them to choose from; ice cream, gelato, sorbet, and homemade popsicles, just take your pick! Bacchus debuted their popsicles this summer, just be sure to eat them quickly so they don’t melt on you!

One can’t function all day on brunch and sugar, so you obviously need to put some food into that stomach! Choose from one of Golden’s many restaurants for dinner. You’ll want to try and go as soon as you can though, the patios on a nice day fill up super-fast! Be sure to check out my last post (A Patio For Every Occasion) of all of the great outdoor patio’s you have to choose from.

After a day in the sun, I’d like to spend some time somewhere nice and cool. Since I’m such a movie buff, the ideal place is at the movie theatre. Kicking Horse Movies features a new film each week, and if you didn’t already hit them up for the ice cream earlier in the day you can take it into the theatre to enjoy while you’re watching the movie!

The best way to end a great lazy day in the sun, is to watch it set over the mountains. I love watching the sunset and see all of the pretty colours in the sky. There’s a couple of good spots to check out; I like watching from Edelweiss Slough or the top of Selkirk Hill. Realistically, you can see the sunset from anywhere in town. So if you’re comfortable where you are, sit back and enjoy!

Since it’s already August, time is running out to really enjoy the summer weather. That’s why it’s so important to take these lazy days while we can, because before you know it it’ll be winter. But hey, can’t say I’m not looking forward to it!
