Gorman Lake

The Gorman Lake area is a hill climber’s paradise and is groomed on a regular basis. This is an area for those extreme riders who enjoy adrenaline ascents and descents on their machine.

Overview

  • Elevation: 9000 feet
  • Distance: 20 kms to Alpine
  • Difficulty: Advanced

This is an area for those extreme riders who enjoy adrenaline ascents and descents on their machine. This area is also the access to Upper Holt, Grizzly, East Quartz and Cirque. It is not recommended for beginner riders. This is also in an area with numerous avalanche paths, so be sure to know the avalanche hazard and how to use your beacon, shovel and probe if you go.

If you’re into a mellow day, park at Gorman’s staging area to ride the West Bench Trail to Quartz Creek (80 km round trip).

Make sure your group has avalanche skills & equipment when playing in the backcountry.

Trail Fees

Trail fees are collected at the gate
$25.00/sled per day. Credit card, flash debit, Apple Pay or cash accepted.
Golden Snowmobile Club memberships are also available to purchase online.

Parking

Gorman Lake has two large parking lots at the 3 km point on the Dogtooth FSR. The road between the gate kiosk and the parking area is steep and has significant exposure. Whilst the roads are plowed and sanded regularly, the smart sledder will take it slowly, be cautious of oncoming traffic and use their engine brakes when descending at the end of the day. People make the costly mistake of driving off this road every year.

More Information

Access is to Gorman Lake Staging is via Dogtooth Forest Service Road. There is often active logging on this road over the winter. Sledders are advised that use of VHF radios is mandatory 7 days per week or while active logging is occurring. This required radio communication will help ensure safety for all road users. Watch for posted signs, use caution at all times, and give logging trucks the right of way.
